What is obesity?

Being obese means having so much body fat that your health is in danger. Having too much body fat can lead to type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis ,sleep apnoea, and stroke.

 

Eating Right When Pregnant

Good nutrition during pregnancy, and enough of it, is very important for your baby to grow and develop. Although nausea and vomiting during the first few months of pregnancy can make this difficult, try to eat a well-balanced diet and take prenatal vitamins.
   

ADHD and ADD

ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and  ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder
The main difference between ADD and ADHD is that children with ADHD are hyperactive, whereas children do not appear to have excessive energy or disrupt classes, instead they often appear shy, to be day dreaming or off in their own world
  • A common behavioural disorder that affects about 10% of school-age children.
  • Boys are 3 times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with ADHD.
  • Adults can also have ADD or ADHD
  • ADHD is most commonly seen as a learning problem, not necessarily accompanied by unruly behaviour.  It usually means that the child has an exceptionally short attention span.
  • Children with ADHD act impulsively, are hyperactive and have trouble focusing.
  • They may have trouble sitting still, paying attention or focussing on details.  Although all children may act this way at times, in children with ADHD the symptoms present over a long period of time and occur in different settings.
  • This affects the child's ability to function socially, academically and at home.
  • Many parents are advised to treat the condition with dietary modification, supplements or medication.
   

Skin Cancer

WHAT IS SKIN CANCER?

Skin cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells.  It occurs when damage to skin cells (most often caused by ultraviolet radiation from sunshine and tanning beds) triggers mutations or genetic defects, that lead the skin cells to multiply rapidly and form malignant tumours.

   

What is Mental Health?

Mental health is the psychological well-being or the absence of a mental disorder. It is the psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioural adjustment.

Cultural differences, subjective assessments and competing professional theories all affect how "mental health" is defined.
